First-person sleuthing, investigation of a silage plate

Yet another field report worth reading is published in Bioenergy Insight Vol. 13 Issue 4 July/August 2022:

First-person sleuthing, investigation of a silage plate

The solid input device is always one of the main bottlenecks in biogas plant operation. Without a stable feeding process, the digestor tank can not be operated properly. Over the past 20 years, there has been a significant rise in quality and lifetime expectations for solid input devices. The same goes for the prices.

In the following article published by Bioenergy Insight, I described investigating the damage to solid input devices at two biogas plants in Germany from 2014-2020. Frustrated by the frequent and costly repairs, the biogas plant operator decided to replace the old SIDs with new ones and requested insurance cover for at least part of the costs of new machines. The report I wrote was a part of the negotiations between the operator and the insurer. Finally, the agreement was reached.
