New contract: “Sustainable waste utilization in Spain - biomethane from olive oil pomace”

Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH was awarded a new contract for the detailed planning of a biomethane plant in Spain at the end of February. The planned plant will be built in the immediate vicinity of an olive oil mill and will convert olive pomace (Alperujo) - a residual material from olive oil production - into valuable biomethane. The approval documents for the project have already been submitted.

In future, the plant will produce around 2000 Nm³/h of biomethane, which can be fed into the natural gas grid as a renewable energy source or used for other purposes. The project thus makes an important contribution to the sustainable utilization of organic residues and the reduction of emissions in agriculture.

Krieg & Fischer carried out a study on the mono-fermentation of olive pomace back in 2004. The results showed promising potential for the energetic use of this by-product. The planned plant will put this knowledge into practice and create an efficient solution for the utilization of residues.

This project underlines Krieg & Fischer's commitment to innovative and sustainable biogas concepts worldwide. The use of olive pomace for biomethane production is another example of how the circular economy works in practice and how renewable energies can be used effectively.
