Bioenergie Velen GmbH's new biomethane plant was officially commissioned in May 2025. The plant sends a clear signal for a future-proof, sustainable energy supply.
At the heart of the plant is a newly designed fermentation line from K&F. Among other things, it comprises two modern fermenters with a net volume of 9,550 m³ each. The biogas produced is refined into biomethane in a downstream processing step and then fed into the natural gas grid - as a so-called RNG (renewable natural gas) plant.
In the first expansion stage, an input quantity of just under 200,000 tons per year is expected. This will initially result in a biogas production of approx. 1,000 Nm³/h. The upgrading plant is designed for a later output of 2,000 Nm³/h of biomethane.
A special feature: the entire plant technology was planned from the outset in such a way that a CO₂ liquefaction plant can be easily integrated at a later date - an example of forward-looking, flexible plant design.
With this project, Bioenergie Velen GmbH is making an important contribution to the decarbonization of the energy sector.
