Congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the German Biogas Association.

30 years of the German Biogas Association. 30 years of know-how at Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH. 30 years of political representation of interests as well as exchange of experience and information in the field of biogas. 30 years for climate protection.

Andreas Krieg is one of the 17 founding members of the German Biogas Association. And he is a founding member of Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH. A good opportunity to take a look at the development over the past 3 decades:

After many local attempts to implement biogas technology in the 1980s, farmers and Development cooperation staff founded the German Biogas Association in 1991. For this still young field had to be given a framework and organized, Krieg recalls. After the first years of intensive exchange, in which experiences, ideas, challenges and solutions to problems were shared in regulars' table style, because "no one knew how to do it," he founded Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH in 1999 after the 'Wild West years'.

The conditions were good: many unknowns had been solved. The fermentation of organic sludge brought a multiplication of the yield of biogas. The operation of this technology became economically profitable. The authorities issued the first regulations in the field of environmental protection and waste management. On a personal level, Andreas Krieg experienced an exciting time in which he approached the subject of biogas both scientifically and technically in countries such as Ghana, China, and Vietnam. Overall, there is a steep learning curve behind the industry.

"… so that biogas plants are built and not just tinkered with"

Following this founding idea of the German Biogas Association, he went into business with Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH. Together with Torsten Fischer he laid the foundation for a successful medium-sized company in the heart of Germany. With 23 employees, our team exports tailer-made biogas technology all over the world.

Continuing the pioneering spirit of the early years of this industry, Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH has continued to produce new innovations and technologies since its founding. In 2003, for example, we received the Innovation Award for the first NaWaRo plant in Obernjesa- Körber-Harriehausen, which ferments corn without the addition of water or liquid manure., and in 2020 we won the AD & Biogas World Biogas Expo Award 2020 in the Circular Economy Award category for the bioethanol plant in Rio Cuarto, Argentina.

We congratulate the German Biogas Association on its 30th anniversary. More about the history of the association can be found on the website. Especially worth reading is the Anniversary book on 30 years of the German Biogas Association. Here you will get more personal insights from Andreas Krieg and other pioneers of the association.
