Sustainable energy and waste reduction – on the advantages of harnessing biogas as an eco-friendly alternative

Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH published the article Sustainable Handling of Waste Streams from Slaughterhouses - German company aims to demonstrate the benefits of biogas and help companies to manage their waste streams in the current edition of the International Newsletter of the German Biogas Association.

This article gives an in-depth insight into one of our core competences, the fermentation of waste streams from slaughterhouses, which belong to the organic industrial residues.

In addition to general information about the opportunities of these animal by-products in biogas technology for human and animal health as well as on maintaining sustainability and environmental goals, the article highlights two biogas plants; one in Belgorod, Russia, and one in Germany. Both reference projects are tailor-made and characterized by the addition of different substrates. While the former uses slaughterhouse waste (offal, fur and hair remnants, meat trimmings) and liquid pig manure to ferment corn silage and sewage sludge, the latter uses slaughterhouse waste (stomach and intestinal contents, intestines) with flotate sludge and sewage sludge.
