In July, the joint project "Integrated urban-rural concept for the production of activated carbon and energy sources from residual biomass (CoAct") was launched under the direction of Prof. Michael Wachendorf from the Department of Grassland Science and Renewable Resources at the University of Kassel. Krieg & Fischer Ingenieure GmbH and 7 other project partners are also involved. The aim of the project is to convert residual biomass available in Friedrichshafen and the Lake Constance district into an energy source (for biogas plants) and into activated carbon. Foliage or grass clippings do not necessarily have to be composted. The researchers of the CoAct project are developing technical processes to produce activated carbon and energy from such so-called residual biomass. Our task will be to develop a tailor-made biogas plant for energy generation from the available residual biomass (leaves and grass clippings).
